The Male Tent and Trailer Campers

What we're up to: The Male Tent and Trailer Campers (MTTC) is a group of gay males who enjoy the outdoors and the companionship of other gay males with similar interests. We camp together in state parks and recreation areas in Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, and Ohio about once a month about 10 or 12 or more times a year. We enjoy the community of each other in an atmosphere where we feel comfortable with each other.

The age of the members ranges from 23 to 78. Some have partners and some are single. Many have pets which they bring along . A few have pop-ups, some have campers, some even have tents. Currently we have about 100 members. Of these about 20 to 40 different members attend an outing at any one time. Some members go to all outings, some pick and choose those which can fit their schedule.

Membership is free. Communication is done online, with a liaison for those who prefer not to use the Internet. A monthly newsletter with notification of the various camp sites selected, dates and any special activities for that date will be available. For example, on one weekend outing we had a chili contest. On another, we went to Cedar Point. Once we had a croquet tournament through a field of weeds 7 feet tall and then through the woods. Most all include a pot luck with a theme, like Ethnic dinner night. All campouts have a huge bonfire where members enjoy sitting around swapping stories, jokes, adventures, stories of coming out, traditional weeny roasting, or just sitting around quietly and watching the shooting stars.
